about the fabric recommendations:

The details in this foundation paper pieced Around the World blocks require a good amount of fabric but the results are well worth it! The fabric requirements below are based on the sum total of the individual fabric requirements of each block, so the requirements are generous. Depending on your paper piecing skills, you may use more or less fabric.

A Fabric Planning Chart is included in the Welcome Packet to help you plan your fabrics and get organized. Each block uses a combination of 3 fabrics, from a shared palette of 15, plus the fabric you select for your Quilt Background. For quilts samples shown, I used:

Purchase this option as a fabric kit through Sewing Arts Center.

I was excited to embark on the Around The World quilt at the beginning of 2021 after being stuck at home for most of 2020, and it hasn’t disappointed. I love it that Sheri has made several versions of the entire quilt, with and without the pieced letters. Sheri’s paper piecing instructions are very clear and detailed – she knows what she’s doing and has lots of tips and tricks to help you with the admittedly sometimes many-pieced but so worth the result patterns. I’m very happy with how my version is unfolding and I’m looking forward to putting it all together and having it as a memento of the year that I travelled only vicariously via my sewing machine. Several of my friends are also participating in the Block of the Month, and we are all looking forward to seeing our finished quilts.

I have absolutely enjoyed making each block! Regarding Paper Piecing : The instructions are so well explained and detailed, very easy to grasp. Regarding the design: One of the most beautiful modern, contemporary quilt designs. I adore the aesthetic with typography. I’ve gifted many quilts but this one will stay with me and become one of my favorites! Well done Sheri!

Thank you for doing this BOM. I have loved it. I was able to keep up each month and couldn’t wait to see where we were “traveling” to each month. I loved the detailed directions and cutting recommendations. I found that I loved cutting all of the pieces in advance which made the sewing much easier. I have done FPP in the past, but never a whole quilt. I am so excited to finish this and put it together. I can’t wait until January for your the next quilt! Thank you for a great experience!

This BOM is my first FPP project and I was relatively new to quilting when I started. I am loving this monthly project and get excited each month to receive the email with the next pattern. The flexibility of being able to complete the blocks on my my own schedule has been really helpful, I just print the patterns when I get them so I am ready when I find the time. The instructions are very detailed and, as a newbie to FPP, the monthly tips and tricks videos sent with the patterns have been so helpful. Loving this project overall and considering the 2022 BOM!

I started sewing in January of 2020 after receiving a different block of the month subscription from a friend. Once December 2020 rolled around I was totally hooked and FPP is something I have found that I really enjoy. Since travel has been off limits for much of the last 18 months when I saw this BOM I thought it might be a really fun challenge. It’s been great.

The blocks increased in how intricate and challenging they were and it’s very rewarding when I get a nice result. Don’t worry though, I was a FPP newbie and I have competed every block with great results. The instructions for each block are very clear and all the tips included are helpful.

Sheri thanks so much for designing this! It has been so fun to put together.

I love this pattern! When I first saw this design, I knew I must make one and I am so thankful to Sheri for taking us all on this journey around the world. Knowing a new block, a new location would be sent on the first of every month really added to the enjoyment of working with this pattern. Sheri’s precise FPP templates and detailed instructions are a joy to work with. The details in the blocks are simple enough for an advanced beginner to achieve and complex enough to fill me with pride with every block I complete. I highly recommend this pattern for all quilting adventurers.

I am loving doing the Around the World Block of the Month quilt. I had not done paper piecing for years, primarily because it seemed to be TOO HARD! I found your video SO GOOD– clear, carefully crafted, explanatory. And once I began the process, I found paper piecing to be easy, enjoyable, and quite Zen. I am looking forward to the next block! Thank you so much!

I don’t even know where to start. This is most fun I have ever had on a quilt project. I literally was so excited the first of every month when the new block came out. From picking the fabric to sewing the block I had so much fun! This is the first time I’ve done a BOM of the month and I loved it. Most sew alongs are weekly and since I still work full-time they do not fit my schedule. But having a whole month for each block worked perfectly for me.The pattern and instructions were well done and easy to follow. I love FPP because “cutting the fabric” is the only task in the process of making a quilt that I hate. Sheri had very detailed instructions on cutting the fabric but when I do FPP I like to cut the fabric as I go. The only draw back to the pattern was the “grey” color tones on the pattern to distingusih which fabric to use was a bit difficult but was once you find a system that works for it was ok and that is the reason I only gave the pattern 4 stars.
